Anime I’m currently watching

Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (Run with the Wind)

I was browsing Crunchyroll one day and saw this on the front page. I’m not really sure if it was the name or the thumbnail that caught my eye, but I started reading the synopsis and I knew I had to watch this anime.

This anime follows a group of male college students who all live in a dorm that used to belong to the university’s running team. They all ended up there for different reasons, but only one of them had taken the running club seriously.

Eventually, we find out that the running team captain, Haiji Kiyose, has a goal of having them run in the Hakone Ekiden. The majority of them have had no prior running experience, so they all start getting into shape to try to qualify for the race.

This is a really fantastic anime! It starts off slow, but I enjoyed seeing the struggles and progress that each team member goes through. As a new runner myself, the anime is really relatable. Sometimes you hit a plateau and get discouraged, or sometimes you hit your limit and realize that you can’t get any better. Sometimes there are injuries and disappointments, and other times you pull through and everyone celebrates.

It’s a short series with only 23 episodes, and there are some parts that got me emotional. The animation is fantastic and I thought the music fit well with the series. It’s one of my top favorite anime of all time for sure!

Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia)

I have never really been a person who likes sci-fi or mecca anime. I watched this on the recommendation of my coworker and wow, it is a wild ride.

This anime takes place in the future, after the Earth has been destroyed. All of the characters live on a ship called Sidonia. On Sidonia, there’s a school to train pilots to fly these combat machines called gardes, which are used to fight Gauna. Gauna are monsters that continuously attack the ship and they were also the reason why the Earth was destroyed in the first place.

The first couple of episodes were pretty rough, in the sense that it turned dark really quickly and it was also pretty graphic. I feel like it kind of softened up a tad bit after that since it starts to focus more on the storyline and development of characters.

In addition to the Gauna, it seems like there’s a bit of political instability happening on the ship too. It’s interesting to see how that will develop.

I’m already halfway through the second season, and I’m not really sure how it will end. It is kind of a dystopian world, and it feels like their efforts are futile and that there’s no end in sight. I can’t see this ending that happily.

There’s talk that there should be a third season coming out this year, so that’s exciting. This is a genre that I normally wouldn’t watch, but the storyline has been interesting so far. I would recommend it if you’re into sci-fi, mecca, or dystopias.

Mob Psycho 100

I have not been so hyped up over an anime in a long time. My coworker who recommended the last anime also recommended this one. Mob Psycho 100 is written by the same author as One Punch Man. I love, love, love One Punch Man for it’s sense of humor, animation, and deeper themes of growth and change.

Mob Psycho 100 does not disappoint! The humor is on point and I found myself laughing out loud at it’s humor. The animation during the fighting scenes are amazing. And of course, it does a great job highlighting the struggle and accomplishments of people trying to change for the better.

The story follows a middle school student who is an ESPer. We follow his life as a psychic, exorcising evil demons, but we also see his life as a student who’s trying to become popular and catch the eye of a girl he likes. Along the way, he makes a lot of friends and also helps other people change.

It sounds like a cheesy anime, but it’s been a really fun anime to watch. I find myself smiling at the end of every episode and feel myself getting giddy to watch the next one.

Is there any anime you’re watching or have seen that you’d recommend? Let me know in the comments down below!

My boys love anime so much, I think they would be familiar to the list. I heard them talking about One Punch Man and it’s good to be aware about these new ones.

Run With the Wind sounds like a great anime. I love the sport theme. Running can be such a great physical activity and I always enjoyed films about running, they can be so inspiring…it might be just the motivation I need to start running again.

Before college, I was so updated with everything anime and manga. Now I am watching, or rather, catching up Attack on Titan and Tokyo Ghoul. And I still haven’t finish Naruto! XD Also, I already gave up on One Piece, missed way too many seasons already.

Just discovered your blog! Love how your domain has the word “maid” in it. Not sure if it’s intentional or not 🙂 I have Mob Psycho 100 on my To watch on MAL. Great post!
